Reading between the Lines

So I wasn`t imagining a conflict between the authors of Holy Blood, Holy Grail and The Da Vinci Code, which Sony Pictures is supposed to debut around May this year at Cannes. After being about two years and fourty-some weeks on the Times Best Sellers' List, the Holy Blood duo are taking Random House to court over allegations that Da Vinci Code swiped their "central theme" in the 1982 non-fiction work. The publisher's, of The Da Vinci Code (and quite possibly Holy Blood, Holy Grail) spokesperson aren't not quoted as making any statements, but Dan Brown's lawyer is noted as referring to the spectacle as wild allegations. Hmn… I suppose if the case doesn't go to trial and settles out of court, details will be tougher to dig up. This Reuters break was printed in thePeople Magazine, March 13 issue. One London copyright lawyer is quoted commenting on the case, saying the lawsuit will probably not be successful.
One thing's certain. When and if the film is released nationwide, the book will probably remain in the Best Sellers' List another two plus years, placing it in the running right next to Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. I recall hearing somewhere that that book was on the list for about four years.
