I think I'm getting the hang of this. With every blog server, there are communities that focus on a particular subject. Take Illustration Friday, a successful graphic design domain which usually contain blogspot members participating. I know I've seen something similar on lj. Here it is:

Although it hasn't been updated in a month, I'm going to dig for similar communities to plug their site with a thumbnail banner ad like this.
